Acetal Resin Overpartials
Acetal Resin Overpartials for Fast, Affordable Smiles
Our acetal resin overpartial is available in all 16 VITAPAN classical shades. Retention comes from the natural undercuts in the surface of the existing dentition, so it will not impinge the tissue. Many Clinicians are familiar with Denmat’s Snap-On Smile. Their product is also made using an acetal resin. The material used by their company is named DuraCetal and is manufactured by Myerson. Our lab’s acetal resin overpartial and the Snap-On Smile are very comparable to each other; we began fabricating ours in 2004 before DenMat began selling the Snap-On Smile.
Acetal resin overpartials can be used for a variety of functions such as smile enhancement, temporary use while implants osseointegrate, or use as a wearable diagnostic wax up.
Acetal resin overpartial
To fabricate an acetal resin overpartial case, we require a full arch impression of the maxillary and mandibular arches, bite registration, and shade. Each appliance will raise the vertical dimension (open the bite) approximately 0.5mm-0.75mm in the posterior. We prefer to cover the occlusal surfaces, as it adds strength to the appliances, and this is our default. It is important to remember that a 1mm increase in the vertical dimension in the posterior results in an approximate increase of 2.5mm in the anterior. We can bulk the lingual surface of the upper or flare the lower to make contact with the opposing in the anterior. Please take notice that doing so may not be tolerated as much as a slightly open anterior bite. If you want the occlusal surface open where it occludes with the opposing, which would not raise the VD, then simply inform us. As stated, this does provide a weaker product.
We design the cases according to the patient’s existing contours while making an ideal alignment and filling edentulous spaces. If the patient desires a change in contour, please provide us information regarding the changes wanted and we can send photos of the wax up for approval prior to processing.
Because acetal resin overpartials are limited in the changes that can be made after processing, any change requested that was not part of the original Rx instruction and cannot be accomplished by adjustment will be billed at full charge for the remake.
Snap-On Smile and Snap-It!
If you prefer the DenMat branded product, we can work with them to provide it to you. Snap-On Smile is a non-invasive cosmetic, removable full or partial arch that literally snaps over the patient’s existing dentition…without impinging on the gingival tissue or covering the palate. It’s completely tooth-borne, so no adhesives are required. Patients can eat, drink, and function normally all day, every day! With proper care, a Snap-On Smile or SnapIt! can last from three to five years and is backed by a 12-month warranty with an optional extension to 36 months
Snap-On Smile is available as a full arch and covers either an upper or lower arch. Also available is the Snap-it! system, which is a unilateral prosthesis available for five units or less. The Snap-It! is also an ideal temporary implant. It simply snaps in place, allowing the patient to eat and drink comfortably. The Snap-it! quadrant serves as an excellent removable partial in cases where the edentulous area(s) between the teeth are not greater than 20mm. The Snap-On Smile and Snap-it! are available in all VITA Classical shades A1 through D4.
